WHO IS ZARRSO?
Zambia Reprographic Rights Society (ZARRSO) is a nonprofit making organization which belongs to authors, creators and publishers of literary and artistic works who together with stakeholders established it to address the problem of unauthorized reproduction of their works in Zambia. The Copyright and Performance Rights Act Chapter 406 of the Laws of Zambia provides for the creation of Collecting Societies such as ZARRSO which operate under the direct supervision of the ‘Office of the Registrar of Copyright’ under the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry. It is a Society registered under Section 7 (2) of the Societies Act Cap 119. ZARRSO is also a member of the International Federation of Reproduction Rights Organisations (IFRRO) and thereby operates in accordance with internationally accepted standards of administering reproduction rights of copyright.
"Our mission is to reward authors, creators and publishers for the reproduction of their works and publications’’
Our vision is to be the most efficient and reliable RRO in the Southern African region which will be able to provide a safe haven where authors, creators and publishers are free to create knowing they will be appropriately rewarded for their works and publications which they make available to the users.
The ultimate goal is to make the writing, arts and cultural industry of Zambia a sustainable, respectable and appreciated industry, capable of generating sufficient revenue that will contribute to Zambia’s GDP
In line with our mother body, International Federation of Reproduction Rights’ Organisation (IFRRO’s ) mission which is:
‘’To increase on an international basis, the lawful use of text and image based copyright works and eliminate unauthorised copying by promoting efficient Collective Management of rights through RRO’s to complement author’s’, creators’ and publishers own activities.’’
ZARRSO adopts the very same core values that IFRRO abides by
Respecting the rights of individual creators and publishers to determine how their works are managed.
Encouraging management of rights and providing systematic and proactive support to RROs and supporting joint efforts by authors, creators and publishers of literary and scientific printed works worldwide to establish RROs.
Working to strengthen its role as the leading international body in fostering and providing information on reproduction rights and the collective administration of such rights
Encouraging and providing opportunities for authors, creators, publishers and their representatives to meet, exchange information, collaborate and partner in respect of reproduction of copyright works, document delivery and certain digital uses of their works.
Deploying the highest ethical standards when dealing with the rights which they are involved in administering, with the collection and distribution of remunerations, and the funds they hold in trust.
